WINE TASTING NOTES On the nose, this elegant Quoin Rock Chardonnay presents with ripe citrus, orange peel, vanilla oak, creamy butterscotch and toasted brioche. The luxurious sweet citrus and yellow fruit is weighty on the palate yet delivers a distinct fresh acidity and salinity in a lingering texture to ensure a smooth and well-balanced finish.

VITICULTURE: Our Chardonnay grapes are from Cape Agulhas and Stellenbosch. The Agulhas soils of Bokkeveld, Koffieklip and gravel add to the fresh and saline characters of the wine, whereas the Stellenbosch colluvial sandstone, gravel and friable granite soils provide the citrus and yellow fruit characteristics of the wine. We harvest early in the morning to deliver fresh and flavourful berries to the cellar

VINIFICATION: To lessen enzyme activity and enhance grape integrity, we added whole bunches to the press by hand. The must then settled overnight before we racked it into various fermentation vessels. No stone was left unturned with the making of this wine – to build complexity with an abundance of blends, we used stainless steel tanks, concrete eggs and 500-litre French oak barrels with 40 to 50% new French oak.

MATURATION: After ageing the different wine components for 10 months, we blended the wines to create this complex, full-bodied, mineralstyle Chardonnay. The wine was bottle-aged for a minimum of one year before we released it.

FOOD PAIRING The 2020 QR Chardonnay is a luxurious wine that goes well with most seafood dishes and curries.
